Well Known Southwest Children's Book Author
Dawn Martin was born in La Jolla, California and moved to Tucson, Arizona in 2004 with her husband of 40+ years and three teenage children. Working as a Human Resources professional, she travelled frequently. Long drives and plane flights leave a lot of time for your mind to wander!
Dawn would write stories about the mischief her children got into over the years, weaving them into funny stories. In one book, she modified her grandmother’s 1906 cheerleading song. Dawn just put the stories in a drawer and didn’t think much of it. Until…. the big lay-off.
At age 50, Dawn was laid off after working for a large company for 10 years. It turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to her.
With the support of her husband and 3 college student children, she went back to school and finished her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Arizona. Her 3 children graduated from the University of Arizona too.
During her unemployment, she met a life coach who insisted she write a book, so she wrote and illustrated Freeze Dance: A Story of the Dancing Cactus and then put it back in the drawer.
But… her retirement plan was born. The original plan was to learn Photoshop and create professional illustrations, but her very wise daughter encouraged her to embrace more authentic art.
Her funny, crazy, artistic children grew up to be amazingly smart and talented adults who married amazingly smart and talented adults!
And they all lived happily ever after….
